Particular features:
Kurdish is an Indo-Iranian language that has nothing in common with Arabic or Turkish and only a few similarities with Farsi (Persian). Kurdish uses different alphabets depending on where it is spoken: e.g. Latin in Turkey, Denmark, Sweden and Norway; Arabic in Syria, Iraq and Iran; and Cyrillic in the countries of the ex Soviet Union. The most common dialects are Kurmangi, spoken throughout the north (Turkey, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Syria, Iran and northern Iraq), and Sorani, spoken in southern Iran and Iraq. The Latin alphabet used by Kurdish avails of 31 letters (8 vowels and 23 consonants).
