Particular features:
Korean has used its own script, known as Hangeul, since the 15th century. This script borrows many Chinese characters, and in fact the Chinese writing system is also used in Korea, although it is rapidly falling into disuse. Classification is still a burning question for this language. Many researchers believe it belongs to the Altaic group, but the idea that it may be an isolated language is also gaining currency. Some believe there may be a link with Japanese, with which Korean shares numerous structural and grammatical features (although there is virtually no lexical overlap). A close link with Chinese is also to be ruled out, as Korean has no features in common with Sinotibetan languages. Indeed, while writing Sinokorean words using Chinese characters became the norm due to Korea's close cultural relations with China, the two languages don't in fact share a real degree of kinship
