Particular features:
Bulgarian is one of the Slav languages of the southern group to which Slovenian and Serb also belong. It uses the Cyrillic alphabet, and is the oldest documented Slav language. It is very close to Macedonian. One of the characteristics of Bulgarian is that, over time, it has eliminated noun declensions. Modern Bulgarian is practically the only "analytical" Slav language, like Italian and other neo-Latin languages - i.e. it has done away with most cases. The only case is the vocative, which is still used particularly with male proper names. On the other hand - as with Rumanian - the article is written after the noun to which it relates. For historical and commercial reasons, Bulgarian has borrowed more Greek and Turkish terms than other souther Slav languages
