Computer aided translations (CAT)

For many years now we have been developing computer aided translation technologies, which help maintain high quality standards while reducing delivery times and costs.

Ever faithful to its objective of consistency, Soget uses all the most widespread CAT programs, such as across, Atril Déjà Vu, IBM Translation Manager, STAR Transit and SDL TRADOS.

TRANSLATION MEMORY BASED TECHNOLOGIES
The concept behind Computer Aided Translations (CAT) which we have been using for over 10 years and which we have contributed to develop, is extremely simple. It makes us of the computer's potential to create memories of previously translated texts, organising them and re-offering them for new texts.

The immediate result is to reduce the usual delivery times, and consequently translation costs, particularly in the event of large translation projects.

When the previous translation of a phrase or term – particularly a technical term – is offered to the translator, the latter may accept it, thus obtaining homogeneous style and terminology throughout the documentation, or substitute it with a new version that is either clearer or more suited to the context.
This substitution may also be extended to the entire documentation.

In both cases the result will be greater translation quality!

Another advantage - a decisive one for the purposes of productivity - lies in the ability to translate texts directly in the original format, such as FrameMaker or QuarkXpress, thus avoiding the times and costs involved in repaginating texts in different languages.

We aren't the only international operator offering CAT technologies, but we have longest exploited their full potential, offering customers effective, well-tested and perfected solutions.
During the early 1980s we started collaborating in the use and development of the technological pioneer ALP system (Automated Language Processing), and subsequently adopted IBM Translation’s Manager, developing tools to import texts into various formats and to automatically create glossaries.
Today we handle the leading CAT systems, Trados and across, as standard, while also guaranteeing compatibility with the main Cat applications, such as DéjàVu, Ibm Translation Manager, SDLX, Star Transit and WordFast.

Our solutions allow us to operate on any Rtf, Word or Excel file and on all the main publishing formats (Adobe FrameMaker, InDesign, Pagemaker, Interleaf QuickSilver, Microsoft Office Publisher and QuarkXPress).

As technological documents generally also includes a large number of drawings, our CAT technology allows us to act directly on the original AutoCad files in DWG format, exporting, translating (through our CAT systems) and re-importing the texts into the drawings.

Our direct management of Html and Xml formats and of all the main programming languages means that we can tackle any localisation project, from software internationalisation to the globalisation of websites and multimedia products.

Soget treats the use of said technology, together with the drafting of glossaries, as an integral part of its specific production methods.

Finally, CAT systems also allow us to split jobs between a number of translators without jeopardising the use of homogeneous, specialised and consistent terminology.
