The difference between localisation and internationalisation is subtle but significant:
INTERNATIONALISATION
Internationalisation is the adaptation of products (and certain documentation) so that these may be used everywhere, theoretically and virtually; localisation, on the other hand, is the adaptation to a specific market (usually known as "local").
Internationalisation services are defined with the customer during the planning stage.
LOCALISATION
Localisation includes: translations into a specific language; reading and writing support for certain language groups such as Asian and Oriental idioms; the knowledge of, respect for and compliance with cultural, social and moral values as well as local uses, symbols and aesthetics.
